Welcome

I first began designing for theatre in 2008; since then, I've explored the worlds of lights, sound, projections, and scenery. Hosted here are pictures from a few of the works that I am most proud of. With every production and team that I work with, I try to challenge myself to design something unique that tells a story, whether that of the director, choreographer, or even of the audience member themselves. I hope that you enjoy what I have to offer here, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.

When the elephant comes crashing through the roof

When the Elephant Comes Crashing Through the Roof  tells the fictitious story of Charmion, a female aerialist, and her traveling vaudeville troupe through a complex web of stories connected to life in the circus. Each of the performers has a story, all centrally connected to the idea of an elephant crashing through the roof, breaking the routine or falsehood of daily life. As Celeste Miller (choreographer) says, "This would be more a collection of images that unfold, like looking inside a flower that the petals just keep on unfolding and you look deeper.”

tRaditions and encounters

“tRADitions + enCOUNTers,” directed by Celeste Miller, Theater and Dance...had a focus on how the habits of daily life and learned movement practices come together. The piece included—and put in conversation— a massive spectrum of movement forms and traditions. Broadly, the show progressed through a kind of conversational rhythm wherein distinctly modern and collaborative pieces, performed and developed by the ensemble, alternated with guest performances by groups such as indepenDANCE (hip-hop), Aja Naachle (Bollywood) and Legacia Latino (Contemporary Salsa).

The rocky horror show

In the summer of 2013, I designed a Mentored Advanced Project (MAP) through Grinnell College in collaboration with Justin Thomas, Associate Professor of Theatre at Grinnell College, wherein I served as Associate Lighting Designer for a production of The Rocky Horror Show at The Studio Theatre. As part of the MAP, I assisted with all parts of the lighting design process, including everything from visual research to wishlisting, drafting, patching and assisting with the hang, focus, and writing all effect cues and approximately 20% of the lighting cues. Below you can find links to the production paperwork and a gallery of images from the show.

Projection Design

Broken Mirrors

Broken Mirrors was an adaptation of three short stories from Salman Rushdie's collection in East, West : "The Prophet's Hair", "At the Auction of the Ruby Slippers", and "The Courter". The set was essentially a blank canvas upon which projections could create a variety of scenic worlds, ranging from realistic windows and scenic backdrops to abstract colors to giant chess boards and quotes. Given this wide artistic vision, I created projection motifs that reflected both the varied nature of the three stories and the central idea of conflict between the traditional and the modern ways of life.
